We were sorry to hear of Alfie’s death. A decent man who had so much historical knowledge of his family, farm & community.
He had great pride telling me that the Gallagher’s had been in Ardagh since the 1830’s, stories of breaking in the hill, quarrying and burning lime, lint, seed pirties, an early model T Ford car and a fordson F tractor the first in the district.
Stories and more stories.
He was one of the very few people of his generation who never left home.
The last of his family and so the end of an era.

I am very sorry to learn of Alfies passing, it was a pleasure to have known him for the short few years that I did, he always had a smile and a lovely gentleman, May Alfies soul Rest in Peace. (Tommy the bus driver on Meals on wheels and Lunch Club)
