Sad to hear of Andy's death. I first met him in Belfast around 1970 and worked with him in Dublin subsequently. When he was in Belfast he won the British Newspaper Designer of the Year award working on the now debunked Sunday News. One of the judges of the competition compared his entry as a newspaper which could have been designed by the 14th Century painter Hieronymus Bosch. Today Wikipedia says Bosch is regarded by some as "a hugely individualistic painter with a deep insight into humanity's desires and deepest fears". A comment that might have been written for Andy.

WE are sad to hear of the death of Andy, one of the most talented, congenial and intelligent people we have ever known as a co-worker and friend. Throughout the Troubles he equally relished the demanding days in the News Letter building and convivial nights in the Queen's Common Room. A truly exceptional human being.
