From a conversation I had with Andy one evening at home
which started
about about wind, the East Wind in particular as mam doesn't like the
East Wind!
he remembered some
poetry he had learned in school. This poem he said was a "good one"
And went on to recite most of the verses:
From The Railway Carraige

Faster than houses, faster than witches,
Bridges and houses, hedges and ditches,
And charging along like troops in a battle,
All through the meadows the horses and cattle:
All of the sights of the hill and the plain
Fly as thick as driving rain;
And ever again, in a wink of an eye,
painted srations whistle by.
Here is a child who clambers and scrambles,
all by himself and gathering brambles;
Here is a tramp who stands and gazes;
and here is the green for stringing the daisies!
Here is a cart run away in the road;
And here is a mill and there is a river:
Each a glimpse and gone forever!

So sorry to hear of Andy’s death. Our sympathies to Maureen and all the family. He was a lovely man who loved coming home to Drumkeerin. RIP
