Andy (Sonny) Bennett

With sadness I learned today(March 17th) of Sonny's death.My deepest sympathies to his brother,sisters and extended Bennett family.A small consolation for me is that I called to see Sonny in Athboy about 5 weeks ago.
I met Sonny shortly after coming to Meath in 1987.We were part of a very successful Quiz team for about 5 years.I met Sonny in the Tailteann on Tuesday nights for years as well as in McHugh's occasionally.
Sonny was as intelligent a person as I've ever met.He was very well read and could sum up people very well.As a cyclist and marathon runner he excelled.He grieved at the loss of the Irish Press.
He knowledge of local history was immense and many a person was the benefactor of his knowledge.It has remained a mystery to me why he was removed from his "front desk" role in Navan Library and hidden away thereby denying local history searchers the benefit of this knowledge.
I am very fortunate to have met and to have been befriended by this mental giant.
