Angela Gay (Byrne)

AN APPRECIATION OF ANGELA G BYRNE
I last stood with Angela in the pouring rain at GAAW’s Free Julian Assange demo in Shop St Galway Dec 10. It was not the first time; Shannon, Rossport, Water charges, Angela was always there an activist, warrior and a true comrade. Born in Dublin 1953. Herself, family and 7 siblings went to England. As a teenager she left to work joining the International Socialists in Bradford. Spent 3 years in Paris with the radical artists and intellectuals. Returned and became part of the movement in the UK; Women’s Lib Housing Co-ops, Ecology, Anarchy you name it she was there. Armagh, Greenham women she helped to set up Paupers Press a Co-op of printers. She returned to Ireland in the late 80’s with her young family, Beatrice and Barney, and settled in Carraroe I met her in the early 90’s when she joined the activities of WIME Radio pirate Woman, The Raging Grannies and later The Banner Theatre. She was a talented painter, published poet, signwriter and photographer. She became the official community artist for Carraroe. She died suddenly in her home 9/10 Jan. We send condolences to her daughter and son and hope that we will celebrate Angela G Byrne that bouncy, blond, punk, anarcho feminist when we come through this latest lock down.

I am so shocked and saddened at the sudden passing of my great friend Angela. We did so much together over so many years. We were in contact every day.

My deepest sympathy to her daughter Beatrice and partner Brian, son Barney and all her sisters and brothers.
I will remember you always, codladh sámh dearest Angela.

I feel privileged to have known Angela through the Rosmuc painting group An Scuab Fraoch.She was a special person and I always enjoyed our chats together. She had great talent and was very kind with advice and help.A gentle lady.May she rest in peace. My condolences to her family in your sad loss.

Angela was an enthusiastic and Supportive member of Scuab Fraoch, our painting and creative arts group. Her own creative work was beautiful and imaginative, her beautiful prints were unique pieces of craftmanship.
She was always ready to help with anything and could be depended upon to be there when needed.
Angela, we will miss you. Thank you for your contribution to our group.
