I have had the great honour of being one of Angela’s close friends for the past 25 years. A loyal friend, a fantastic nurse, and a witty, highly entertaining lady who made everyone feel special. She stayed up all night with my mother on her second-last night on this earth so that I could sleep — a kindness I will never forget.

Angela was a wonderful cook and had a rare gift for making everyone feel at home in her house. She also had a great flair for interior design and loved changing things around — always with Jim patiently painting whatever she decided needed a new look. Her texts were always humorous; she had such a way with words. She adored her Jim and her wonderful son Andrew and daughter Sinéad, and she was so proud of you all.

A light has gone out in our lives, and the world is a much colder place without her. No words can ease the pain, but I hope that in time the warm and beautiful memories will replace the sadness, and that you will smile again.

My heart is broken for all of you.
I had the pleasure of Angela being my friend for longer than I can remember and she never failed to put a smile on my face. Angela was such a lady but her txts were brilliant so I wont say anymore but they would have the grumpiest person bent over laughing, thats the kind of friend everyone should have. She had a heart as big as anyone could find. Never was there a time when I would ring her and she would say I will have to call you back unless herself and Jim were about to board a plane.
I have wonderful memories of Angela, so Jim, Andrew and Sinead ye must have millions so hold on to them and visit them every day.

In 2015 my mother was kept overnight in hospital to assess a persistent pain in her shoulder.
At about 2 AM two Gardaí called to my dad and told him that he had to go to the hospital that my mother was poorly .
He phoned me and I drove him in silence.
On arrival we were told that my mam had died and we were brought into the room where she lay.
Immediately to my mother‘s right, I spotted a familiar face from Ardmore. It was Angela who was on duty that night .
She had sat with my mother before she died and waited with my mother until we arrived. She came over to us held my hand and told me that my mother was a lovely lady ,that they had been chatting during the evening.

That at one point, my mother felt a slight chill and so Angela wrapped her in a blanket,held her hand and got a smile in return .
Then my mother died.

It was a massive embolism and death was instantaneous.
I felt an enormous debt of gratitude to that nurse who barely knew me, but who went out of her way to wait for us and to care for me and for my dad .

It was a huge relief to know that in that busy hospital, someone had treated my mother with respect had looked out for her, and looked after her in her final moments.

I was devastated when I heard the news but I know that my mother and many, many more will be proud to hold her hand and comfort her on her final journey home.

I was heartbroken to hear of Angela‘s very sad and tragic recent passing. I remember her so well right back to my first years in the early 90s at Bon Secours Cork. A fantastic nurse, professional to her fingertips, always so nice and so kind, and so supportive to me while I found my feet as an inexperienced consultant. And always with good humour and fun. The world has lost a very special person, and my heart goes out to her husband Jim and her lovely children Andrew and Sinead, as well as all to of her extended family.
