I was very sad to learn about the passing of Anita . My mum Daiden and I enjoyed fishing with her in Ballycroy and the banter about the one that got away afterwards .

To Elizabeth , Mia, Sheila, Michael and all the Layden family and friends we were so sad to hear the news about Anita. We have such fond memories of her over the years especially on ski trips , and fishing in ballycroy. She was the warmest person and so welcoming to everyone . I remember the first time I met her in Switzerland and feeling instantly at ease as I didn’t know anyone but she made it so much easier. We hadn’t seen Anita in quite a few years so we were very sad to hear about her passing. She will be missed by the many lives she touched over the years . My deepest sympathies to Elizabeth and Michael, Mia, Sheila and extended families. I only knew Anita briefly but I remember her kindness. Mary Hayden and my Mum, Daiden Ó hEocha were great friends since childhood and Mum enjoyed fishing in Ballycroy every summer. After Mícael and Mary passed Mum continued to visit Ballycroy, a place she loved to fish, and was shown great kindness by Anita and the rest of the Layden family. Our family are deeply grateful to the Laydens for your generosity and kindness to Daiden. Rest in peace Anita.

To Elizabeth, I am so sorry for your loss and to Anita's wider family I send my deepest condolences. As you know Anita and I dated for a short time before she met you, Elizabeth and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with her. She was a warm, generous and fiercely intelligent woman. In 2019 I married my partner, Marian and you and Anita got married and we exchanged congratulations. Sadly I lost touch with Anita after that and only learned of her illness recently. I am deeply saddened to hear of her death. Rest in peace, Anita.

I worked briefly with Anita in Irish Water and was always struck by her warm, positive and patient nature. I really enjoyed hearing about her varied pastimes and past projects.

What a pleasure it was to know Anita Layden. A positive, generous, empathetic, and beautiful soul who worked tirelessly, fought fiercely for what she believed in, and poured her heart into everything she did. She loved Elizabeth with all her heart and adored Sheila, Mia, Michael, Stephen, Aidan - not to mention her four beloved niblings. Her funeral mass was the most beautiful and fitting farewell to a brave and extraordinary woman. I will carry Stephen’s advice with me: to learn from Anita, to be kind, and to stay positive in the face of life’s hardest challenges. I believe her legacy will live on. It was a gift to have known her.

Her life was far too short but her legacy will be the many lives she touched with love. She was warm and kind but also a serious person and has left the world a better place, especially with development work overseas.
