May Anne RIP A Lovely Lady

Anne was a great friend of our mother, Maura. Anne was definitely one in a million. The huge crowds at her funeral spoke volumes about the esteem she was held in by so many. She had a word for everyone and her brown bread and scones must have been tasted in most of the houses in Portlaoise. People would often find some brown bread or scones hanging on their door. In her time Anne must have been on every Parents Council and Committee in the town - if you want something done ask a busy person! As Carol so eloquently put it in her eulogy - she was everyones’ Mam but you all were so lucky she was yours. Rest in Peace Anne.

My memories of Anne go back to school days in Ballyroan and my visits to her home in Cullanagh, to enjoy her Mam’s delicious home cooked scones, tarts and cakes - such a house of hospitality! Anne was a lively character, full of fun and laughter, whose company we enjoyed. She was ready for any adventure and well able to take advantage of being the youngest of the family! May Anne enjoy the light, peace and happiness of her heavenly home, united with her beloved Ollie, whom she loved from her teenage years.

The end of an era.... what an amazing woman Anne was. I am deeply sorry to hear of this enormous loss for all the Fennell's, extended family, relatives and countless friends. Many's the scone, apple pie and Christmas cake was consumed in our house over the years, courtesy of Anne. Was there anything this woman couldn't do? In the sadness of Anne's passing, we must celebrate her very full life. Despite the crosses she bore, she faced challenges with faith and determination. A true inspiration. Thanks Anne, you were great company and a great friend to my own mum. May you enjoy your reward and rest in the peace and love of your new eternal home. x
