Dear wonderful family of Annie,

My name is Lavinia, and I had the immense privilege of working with Annie at the FSR in the energy law department under Prof. Leigh Hancher. Working in Florence was already a dream, but Annie made that year one of the brightest, happiest chapters of my life. She brought colour, warmth, and joy into every single day we shared.

I treasure our memories: the daily laughing sessions in our Schifanoia office, our first trip to Paris and our funny French accents, the conferences in Brussels, visiting Leigh in Amsterdam, our weekends exploring Tuscany, and our 1 May 2018 adventure to Nice and Monaco in my little Fiat 500 — being stopped by the police after I ran a red light, the Matisse museum where she explained everything with such passion, the dinners, the dancing, the endless fun.

I still cannot accept that I now have to speak about Annie in the past tense. It feels impossible. Annie was a sun in our lives — radiant, warm, generous, unforgettable. She gave so freely: her kindness, her encouragement, her love, and that extraordinary laugh of hers… a laugh so full of joy that it lifted everyone around her. When Annie laughed, the world felt lighter.

Losing her feels unbearably unfair. I can only hope she has found peace, that her beautiful spirit is resting gently somewhere beyond our reach, and that she is still laughing up there — just as brightly and beautifully as she always did here.

May her precious soul rest in peace.

Sincere condolences to Siobhan, Pat, David, Killian and Diarmuid on the passing of Anne Marie. We played badminton together and I have great memories of that time, and of how lovely it always was to meet her again over the years after.

Annie was a rare gem of a soul, a rare diamond indeed. When I think of my time in secondary school, I think of Annie and how much she made me laugh and how she showed kindness and empathy to everyone in her midst. She truly was a special person and I loved her so much. She had an incredible impact on the world in her short time here. Sending love, strength and comfort to her family at this time. She will always be remembered and cherished by me.

Annie was a colleague at the Florence School of Regulation in Italy, one of the many brilliant researchers I met over the years. And yet, among many, she was unique, special. Always kind, always available, always smiling. And that particular, wonderful way of laughing I'll never forget. Annie made our days at work brighter and happier. She will never be forgotten.

Anne Marie was an absolutely gorgeous person, inside and out. A beautiful smile, an infectious giggle and a kind, generous heart who welcomed me to the extended Irish family with open arms. As a fellow Loreto girl, Anne Marie exemplified Mary Ward's values of freedom, justice, sincerity, verity, and felicity. Our hope is that our Órla Anne will grow up with the same characteristics and values.

Siobhán, Pat, Killian, Diarmuid, Davy and the whole family, I am so sorry for your loss - you are in our thoughts. We hope you get some comfort in knowing she is no longer in pain, that you were by her side and that she will forever be remembered by all that were lucky to have her in their lives.

My deepest condolences to all the family. This still does not feel real.

I had the pleasure of spending more than 5 years with Annie in Florence, and I hold so many wonderful memories of our time together: our nights out at Fiasco, evenings making ceramics and eating pizza, long conversations at Villa Schifanoia… Working with her, and having her as a friend, made me love living in Florence. She was so bright, so kind, and so much fun to be around. Her laugh is something I can still hear clearly, and I will treasure it forever.

I always felt sad that we lost touch after she left Florence. I tried many times to find her, but unfortunately never managed to reconnect, and that weighed on me. Receiving this news now is heartbreaking. Still, I feel incredibly grateful that our paths crossed, that she met my son, and that we shared so many wonderful moments. I will carry those memories with me always.

This time of year makes me think of her even more. I remember how excited she always was to go home and spend Christmas with her family. I used to tell her that her family must be wonderful, because she was such a special person.

Annie, you taught me so much — to be myself, to laugh about the smallest and silliest things, and to be a better person. You will always be in my heart.

I was lucky enough to spend 6 years with Annie in Loreto. She was always so warm and kind to us all. We as a class group have being remembering her contagious giggle and smile that would light up a room and set off a mischievous group of teenage girls into fits of laughter.

She never had a bad word to say about anyone and always seemed so positive about everything no matter the hurdle. One of those rare humans that everyone loved to be around.

Annie was one in a million. I was so lucky to call her my friend. Over the past few days her school friends have been sharing so many wonderful stories and photos of her. I have so many happy memories of Annie - from our days in Loreto to travels around Europe in our 20s.

What I will always cherish however is when my own sister passed away and a few years later my Dad. She went out of her way to give condolences and be my friend when I needed it most. Her loss to all who loved her is profound.

Thinking of Pat, Siobhan, Killian, Diarmaid and Davy. Annie was the best of people. She will never be forgotten.
