I have lots of lovely memories of Tony applying his unique wit to writing wonderful lyrics to my music all those years ago. He was a very quiet unique person and I loved our conversations. We formed a small company to write songs and had success in lots of song competitions. I was sad when he moved to the states. I'll miss him.
On behalf of Newbridge College Union, we would like to offer our deepest sympathy to Brenda, Gillian, Mick, Peter, Keith, and the extended O'Doherty family on the sad passing of Anthony.
May he rest in peace.

I was his successor in Lisney in 1990 and he was a great help to me during that transition.

Brenda and family so sorry to hear of Tony’s passing. Like Bob Harley I met Tony on the same day in Newbridge and stayed friends since. A very clever man sharp wit and great company. My sympathies to you all may he rest in peace Frank Mulligan
Deepest sympathy to the O’Doherty family.
Our sympathies to Mick and Peter on the loss of your dad. We only met a few times but they were enjoyable and memorable. Our condolences also to your mum, Gillian and Keith.
Tony and I were lifelong friends beginning in the Autumn of 1955 when he welcomed this fish-out-of-water Yank when I arrived at Newbridge College as a new boy. Listening to The Goon Show we created a comedy and music troupe and entertained our fellow Newbridgers. Tony was one of the most imaginative thinkers I ever knew – he was incapable of thinking inside the box. One of my fondest memories was the 3 summer holidays Emily and Jeremy and I spent with Tony, Gillian and Keith on Cruit Island in Donegal – Tony creatively inventing new outdoor games for the three pre-teens. He was constantly renewing himself, starting in Donegal, then Dublin, Cavin, Wicklow, New Jersey and living his last few years in Palm Desert California. His like shall not be seen again.

Our condolences to you Brenda, Gillian, Mick, Peter, Keith and to his sisters, Mary and Dorothy on Tony’s death. A very bright and creative man has left us and we are the poorer for it. Memories of Tony come back to me. After one of his holidays in the 1960s with his aunts in Falcarragh, he left behind a fishing rod and after some time, it was passed on to me. My first efforts as a young boy to catch a mackerel were with that rod. Tony was held with great affection in our family. Tá muid brónach anois go bhfuil sé imithe.
Mick and family, we are so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. We are thinking of you all and sending our love. Cherish all your fond memories.❤️ Pat and Tracy O’Dowd and all the O’Dowd family

Brenda, and all your family, I am so sorry for your great loss. We all remember with great fondness your visits to Donegal over the years. A life well lived, he certainly used all his talents and left his mark. There will be stories to be told. May he now rest in peace.
Breda & myself are so saddened to learn of our beloved cousin Tonys death. My late Mam Kathleen had a special place in her heart for Tony & I know the feeling was mutual. Tony was a very special person, so kind ,gentle & caring. May he now rest in peace. We are sending our heartfelt condolonces to you Brenda, Gillian, Mick, Peter & Keith and also to Tonys sisters Mary Burgess & Dorothy Hyde
Very sad to hear of Tony’s death after a long life. As Orla has said previously he was very special to our mum Kathleen, so when we visited Fresno in 7/2005 , he travelled there specially to assist us with transport on a daily basis during our stay while we visited Fr. Paddy. My mum often talked of Tony’s kindness to us during that emotional trip. Sincere sympathy to Brenda, Gillian, Mick, Peter & Keith on his passing. May he rest in peace.
Im so sorry to hear of Tonys Passing. He was often in Downings visiting my parents and he invited me to sail with Michael, Peter and Keith in Dublin Bay when i was living there. Had lunch with him in Manhattan when i moved there and was also with himself and Brenda at their house in New Jersey for a coffee. Fond memories of a lovely person.
So sorry to hear of Tony’s death. I remember with fondness his visits to my mother Kathleen (nee Doherty & formerly Main St. Falcarragh) in Downings with Brenda and all the family. I also recall his visit to my home in Granard, Longford with Brenda, in Dec.2013 to visit my mother. He held a special place in my mother’s heart. A real gentle man and lovely person. Sincere sympathy to Brenda, Gillian, Mick, Peter, Keith, grandchildren and his sisters Mary & Dorothy. Suaimhneas sioraí Tony. Orla MacFadden, Granard, Longford (formerly Downings, Donegal).
Fond memories of a very kind man. Our prayers and condolences to you Brenda and all your family. Go n-déanfaidh Dia Trocaire ar a anam dílis 🙏🙏
