All of us in the National Symphony Orchestra were so very fond of Anton, and no one has ever made us sound so good on air!
He was the perfect combination of consummate professional, gregarious personality and
champion of excellence in his craft.
May it be of comfort to his family to know that he was so appreciated in his workplace, and it is a great blessing to us all that he passed on his superlative sound engineering skills with such generosity to his colleagues.
He was always so aware of each individual
musician’s contribution to a performance, and would often surprise one of the NSO players with a copy of that night’s radio broadcast, when he knew that they had featured prominently…perhaps accompanied by a wry comment and a cheeky glint in his eye! Such humour, focus, thoughtfulness and unexpected consideration was the hallmark of a very remarkable man.
He will be much missed.
May he rest in peace.

To Anthony's family and and his sister Terese who we've only just got to know.so sorry we never met Anthony but reading all the messages tells me he was a beautiful person just like my grandad Michael Toomey his relative .love from Clare and Eva cork may he forever be remembered.
Anton was my manager at Bantry House when I first volunteered at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival back in 2017. He immediately put me at ease with his friendliness and quick wit. He was always up for a laugh while consistently ensuring the events at the House ran smoothly.
He was a generous, thoughtful, and hard-working man who always went above and beyond; whether it was working from dawn until dusk at the House or making the journey to Cork from Kildare to see my quartet play a concert in the Triskel Christchurch a few years ago.
I will always have treasured memories of our time together filled with so much laughter, banter and exchange of opinions. I will miss him and his playful spirit.
Rest in peace Anton and my deepest condolences to Steph and his family.

Our sincere condolences to you Stephanie and your family, may Anton rest in peace
In loving and fond memory of my silly and sweet Uncle Anton. No matter how many years passed, Uncle Anton doted upon me as his niece. Always with quick wit or a quicker retort, he lit up many a conversation. Uncle Anton brought and shared joy, laughter, giggles, a sense of adventure, soft kindness, warmth, and caring. In my experience, he was not one to refuse savoring wine and cheese while enjoying a sunset. He was awestruck and enamoured by my striking Auntie Steph and ever proud of Jenny’s and Jeff’s external achievements. Moreso, Uncle Anton loved and appreciated my cousins for the internal content of their individual characters. Long ago, Uncle Anton generously provided me with a personal, guided tour through Dublin. We stood at the tomb of St. Patrick, and he welcomed me into his studio at RTE. He showed me a few examples of how he engineered sound. He magically created the sound footsteps out of thin air, and I still hear them. I will miss you, dear Uncle Anton.
Stephanie and family.

Deepest sympathy Steph, Jennie & Jeff. Anto was a treasured husband and Dad. RIP
It was with such a heavy heart that I read of the passing of my former RTÉ colleague Anton Timoney. I am privileged to work with many great people, but Anton was truly exceptional. He was a genuine beacon for me in my formative years in radio, more than he ever knew. When I say that, it makes me reflect on just why this was and how Anton stood out from others. He was a brilliant sound engineer/producer always striving for excellence, holding himself up to high standards, demanding more from himself than anyone could. It was never a case of him stating it could be better, he would ensure it would be better. He executed his work with such integrity, always setting clear expectations, acknowledging the context of the recording, his approach, while remaining respectful at all times to the sound produced by the recording artists. Anton could talk, he was gregarious in nature, always regaling us with stories of orchestral performances, recordings and special musical moments he was fortunate to experience. He always listened, and listening was his art. Whatever space Anton is in now I hope he will be having a pint of the black stuff in good company. And if it’s a sonic space, I have no doubt he will shape it with great authenticity, and it will be ever more beautiful. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Sincere condolences to Stephanie and family from Denis and John Conlan.

Sincere condolences to all your family on Anton's sad passing. Working with Anto over the years at West Cork chamber music festival was an immense privilege. His wisdom, generosity and patience were inspiring, he had fantastic stories and was wonderful company, with high standards for everything he was involved with. He will be so missed.
Myself and the extended National Concert Hall stage/audio/electrical team which to extend our deepest sympathies to Anton’s family on this sad occasion.
For most of us, we go back to the mid/late 80’s with Anton and indeed his late dad Eamon.
He was well liked by all in here and leaving work aside we had some fun times. He always enjoyed the banter.
One of our colleagues came up with a little ditty some years ago to pay homage to Anton in a light hearted way. We would sing it to him side stage every Friday and despite him throwing his eyes up to heaven , he loved the attention.
Rest in peace Anton

My deepest condolences to Stephanie, Jennie & Jeff. Anton was unwaveringly kind and generous and is a huge loss to all who knew him. Thinking of you all at this very sad time.
Anton was one of a very small coterie of top sound engineers in RTÉ Radio and I was honoured to work with him regularly in the 1980s and 90s. I also had the privilege of working with Anton's father, the legendry Eamonn, when I was a novice radio producer. Anton was a wonderfully helpful and generous colleague who would bring his outstanding skills and natural instincts and gifts to bear on recordings and live relays of all kinds - symphonic, opera, choral, solo and chamber music recitals and drama....and more! He was a perfectionist who strove for the best in himself and expected nothing less in everyone else and he discarded the clock if more time was needed to complete the job.....that's something I remember in particular when he and I worked on the West Cork Chamber Music Festival in its early years. He was also funny, hillariously so. Mischievously so. And how good it was to meet up with Anton in Bantry after his retirement from RTÉ and see his qualities shine through afresh in his support for the Festival. Sincere condolences to Stephanie, Jennie, Jeff, Therese and Mary. Rest in peace, Anton.

My deepest condolences to you Steph and your family and to Anton’s sisters Mary and Therese. I met Anton when I joined the Irish Youth Orchestra in the late 1970s and he was bossing us - hilarious! He was so full of fun and I was flattered how over the years he would reminisce fondly of those innocent enough times. Later, I encountered his blazing commitment to the chamber music festival in Bantry and his encompassing professionalism. Great memories, all. Gone from you, his beloved family, far too early. RIP Anton
