Anthony (Tony) Carroll

Don and Tony were wonderful neighbours of mine in Stoneybatter. I was very fond of them both. Both of them were great fun and they truly loved each other. May they both rest in peace together now. It was a privilege to have known them both.

In the quiet tremble of these days,
we remember Tony, as I called him.
A man whose life was a song with many verses, each one tender, each one true.

He belonged to three families, not by chance, but by the generosity of his heart.
His birth family, who first held him, his gay family, who walked with him in truth and joy, and his religious family, who heard his voice rise in faith, offering comfort, reassurance, and love to souls who needed light more than he ever asked for himself.

Tony loved with devotion. A loyal husband, steady as a heartbeat,
a friend who made laughter feel like home, always placing others before his own needs, as if kindness were the only language he ever learned.

He carried God not as a banner, but as a whisper, a melody he shared freely,
singing hope into the weary, lifting spirits with the softness of someone who knew how to heal without being asked.

And now, as we gather in his memory,
it feels as though a song plays softly in the background, as he did at my wedding, a chanson of love, of longing, of a life lived with open arms.
“Hier encore,” ( Yesterday again) he might have said, but today we say:
Thank you, Tony.

For the love you gave, for the families you built, for the music you left in every heart you touched.
May you rest in peace, reunited to your dearest Don, and may your melody never fade.
