Anthony (Tony) Cowan

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Tony such a lovely man he was had great chats with him in bantry town outside the bakehouse and de barras and super value. We would always have a laugh together. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace

It was so sad to hear of Tony’s passing. I was fortunate to be his caller during the pandemic as a member of the Caring Callers Club in Bantry, and will forever remember with fondness such wonderful tales of his youth in Pennsylvania and Nebraska, his student days in Harvard and Berkeley, along with his adventures travelling through Europe as a young man in the late 50s and early 60s. Tony was a voracious reader, possessing a vast knowledge of world history, with a particular passion for Greek and Roman civilization. What a treat it was to have crossed paths with this wonderful and interesting man. I will so miss our regular chats that continued until last week, especially his treasure trove of knowledge, roguish humour and infectious laugh.

Sincere condolences to his brother Jim and sister Sarah, whose last visit to Ireland brought him such enormous joy. God Bless you dear Tony as you rejoin your beloved wife Jackie and your cherished sister Mary. Aloha, dear friend.
