Sorry to hear of Tony’s passing. Deepest sympathy to all his relatives. Tony sat next to me in some Leaving Cert classes. Met Tony a number of times over the years with our mutual friend Joe (Birdie) Hynes, RIP, Mount Street. Last time I met Tony was in Castleknock National School where Davy Nolan , St Brigids Terrace, released his book The History of St Brigids National School, Castleknock. There was a good turnout of Mullingar people there including Tom and Joe Doherty, Bishopsgate Street, Eugene Keenan (Shandonagh) and Tony Keegan. I always enjoyed Tony’s company. This is very sad news. I have known Tony all my life. We were next-door neighbours in Patrick Street, so that his life and mine were intertwined from the very beginning. I still have very vivid warm memories of those early days in Patrick Street, so that with Tony gone, I feel that part of my own history has disappeared. To this day, I remember the kindness and love Tony and his sisters showed me when my mother died, when I was very young. When we met last summer, we spent the time recollecting and reliving games and adventures of those early days. Tony had such a lively mind and I always enjoyed meeting him over the years or talking to him on the phone. Despite the fact that we lived on different continents, I am so grateful that our friendship stood the test of time. Tony added so much to my life and for that I will be forever grateful.

Dear Sheila and Orla, please accept my sympathy – ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Kevin Nugent, Boston.
