Sincere condolences to Breda & Family on the sad passing of Tony.

Tony was a long time member of the Hockey club, a great competitor, club captain who always enjoyed the after match banter with members and opposition alike. He was very popular regular at the annual Christmas lunches. We were very sad to hear of his recent passing.

I was only going through photos of ma and da with Tony and Breda, from many, many moons ago. Breda you were one of mammys (Bernie Johnson), lifelong, best friends and if we can do anything to help please let us know. Hopefully there’s a tennis racket and ball waiting for him and few jars lined up with friends gone before him when he arrives at the pearly gates. See you all soon, love Orla and family xx
So sorry to hear the news about Tony’s passing, to think he was playing in our recent Annual Christmas fundraiser day only a few weeks ago.
Tony was a very keen sportsman who loved his tennis in Claremont/Railway Union and Templeogue, I played hockey against him when he played for Lorraine Hockey Club in the Phoenix Park . He kept up to speed on World cricket especially Ireland’s success over the last number of years and every Tuesday we’d have a chat about all different sports. We will miss his witty comments and jokes on Tuesdays but we won’t forget him.

My sincere condolences to the family and close friends of Tony O’Byrne. Being relatively new to Ireland and to the Templeogue Tennis Club, Tony was quick to offer up his friendship upon our first meeting at the club. His inquisitive wit and charm immediately made me feel a part of the oldies tennis group. We played together on a number of his Tuesday and Thursday matches, engaging in topical conversations over tea and coffee after. Tony was always a thoughtful, inquisitive and kind soul. We talked briefly of our past experiences and found a mutual admiration for the lives we’ve led. I will hold fast to Tony’s positive attitude towards life. Simply inspirational. Although I only knew him over a brief timeline, I’m lucky I had the chance to meet Tony. I will not forget him. Rest in peace, Tony.
