Ashling O’Brien
(née Meaney)

So incredibly heart breaking to read about her passing.
As no longer involved with patient care, i had no idea she got worse.
I connected with Ashling when she called me at the MDS charity, when first diagnosed.
We then met in person at patient meetings.
She was an incredibly courageous, strong, kind, funny, considerate, genuine, generous, thoughtful lady.
One of these people that inspires you to be a better person, and restores your faith in humanity.
I am grateful that i got to meet her, for her impact she made on others, and me.
I had introduced her to another beautiful soul, Fiona, and they became best friends. It became clear later why these two magnificent people got on so well (and their husbands).
Fiona passed a few years ago, and we met again at the funeral. Last time i saw her, so so memorable, and hard.
As Fionas husband said, Fiona will be welcoming Ashling with open arms up there.

I was so sorry to hear of your loss, I met Aisling as her public health nurse and when we were chatting realised we had Damien in common she was a lovely person. Sincere sympathy to all her family.

I met Ashling in Burketts ward in James’s St,three years ago.She was so supportive and kind to me whilst being in ill health herself. Ashling was an amazing woman, and was so positive and full of love for her family. We had many laughs in the hospital waiting room. I deeply regret her passing. . All my sympathies to Ashling ‘s family and friends on the terrible loss of such a wonderful person. Mary.

I never met Ashling but we were on the MDS Facebook page and when my partner was in a coma she always messaged me , when he came home she checked how I was and how he was doing , after her transplant we would message at times checking how she was doing. She always kept me so positive through the difficult times . She was an inspiration to so many going through MDS. Thinking of the family and sending all my love . Rest in peace you will always be in my thoughts. Jojo xx

I met Ashling at school in FCC and she always had such a smile, warmth and good humour. We connected once or twice over the years and she had the same warmth and good humour about her and spoke with such love about her cherished family. May Ashling rest in peace.

Deepest sympathies to Ashling’s husband, children, Mam , Dad , sister and family. I was very sad to hear of her untimely loss. I remember Ashling as a beautiful and gentle little girl and then teenager many years ago in the Order of Malta in Tallaght. She loved learning and taking part in activities. Ashling and I knew each other through the MDS social media forums. She was always so supportive to everyone. Her kindness shone through her posts. She will be missed by many like me who never physically met her. That is an amazing tribute to a kind, caring compassionate woman. My heart goes out to her husband and children this very sad time.

Ashling you were such a beautiful soul, always a smile, always kind…we were great pals in Tallaght IT. I will never forget our trip to Dingle and the chats we shared. Your heart was always for John and no one else.

We chatted during COVID and you were beaming with pride about your children and of course John. Plans made to meet, but time lapsed, I didn’t know you were sick.

I could not believe it when I heard the news…of all people not you Ash, God really does take the good ones.

Sending you all strength at this heartbreaking time, I have no doubt Ashling will walk gently beside you, her love for you knew no bounds, and will live on.

John, Cian and Chloe, what a sad day that was saying goodbye to the most beautiful soul that ever was created. You all carried out her wishes to the last and gave her the best send off ever. My deepest condolences to John, Cian & Chloe on Ashling’s passing. She had the biggest heart and loved you all so much. She would light up speaking about her family or filling us in on her holidays plans over lunch in work. Ashling was the kindest person and I was so lucky to work alongside her in Equator, she always had the best advice and we had some great times together.

Im so sorry Cian, Chloe and John. I never met any of you or Ashling in person but we chatted every other day for over 10 years through work and then over text and Whats App when work emails werent an option anymore. She was only telling me last week how Cian was in the ambulance service and Chloe had a summer job and she sounded so proud of you all. John she always talked about how you were the best support. I am ao glad you got to make aome great memories in Center Parcs recently and at the wedding - she really enjoyed all of that. Ashling got me and my family addicted to Florida - just like she was 😊. She gave us great tips. When Chloe and my daughter Sadhbh were making their communions, we chatted about plans and dresses etc and I feel like I have lost a very dear friend. I will think of you often and pray for Ashling and yourselves all the time. Big hugs
