Sincere sympathy to the Corcoran family on the loss of Austin. We were classmates at St Jarlath's as we grew up. I have lived in Canada since my young days, but I had a good conversation with Austin at the St Jarlath's 50th reunion in 2015. Austin told me there we were distant cousins.
I attended the 60th reunion yesterday where I learned and was saddened on hearing of his passing.

An rud is annamh is iontach. And one of the wonderful things about Austin was I never heard a bad word said about him, He was not only a gentleman but one blessed with wit and intelligence. He was great company and he kept great company. Austin was a class act in everything he turned his hand to; at home or at work or in the many organizations he was involved with. Nil aon tintean mar do tintean fein. And to Austin, that applied equally to Dublin and Dunmore. And it was Austin , who taught me another old saying = Nil aon toin tinn mar do toin tinn fein ! Austin we will miss you and you ran a good race (unlike some of your racing tips!) but ni mhaireann rith maith ag an each igconai! All good things come to an end but our memories of you last forever. Condolences to Ina and to all your family and friends and thank you for all the good times.

I first met Austin many years ago when we both flew a flag for the late Tom Gilmore, who also hailed from Austin’s beloved Dunmore. I subsequently enjoyed his exceptional company and camaraderie at INTO conferences in the ’70s. Austin was an outstanding exemplar of all that is best in conscientiousness, character and commitment in Irish teaching len ár linn.
