Liam and family, my sincerest condolences on the loss of your dear dad. Thinking of you all at this sad time. Austin's was obviously a life well lived and enjoyed . He was highly respected and indeed loved by all of us in ICS. Despite his senior position he treated everyone around him with courtesy, respect and friendliness. His was a great sense of humour and he was a colourful raconteur. He will be sadly missed.

His affable demeanour endeared him to everybody & it was no surprise that he was invited to be captain in 1978. He will be sadly missed by his family & many friends. I’m so very sorry to read that you have lost your beloved Austin.
Having worked with both you & Austin in the ICS, Westmoreland Street many years ago I would like to send you my sincere sympathy. The ICS was such a happy, fun place to work. So many memories have come flooding back. Mary, yourself & myself in the typing room. Then Austin would walk in & the craic would increase. I remember all the team so well, Harry, Louis, Neville, David, Sadie, Maura, Eric & of course Mr Ingram & Mr Ludlow. However, Austin always shone the brightest.
Thinking of you so much & wishing you & your family strength to cope with the days ahead.

A great man for the craic, I often had to run over to the Harp to get him to sign something while he was on his lunch.
