My deepest sympathy to the Gaffney Family on the passing of Austin. My late sister Mary had many happy memories of being in productions with Austin with Pius X Mus Society. Austin was a true gentleman with a God-given gift- may you rest in peace Austin.
Having worked with both Irene and Aidan years ago when Cupid's bow first struck the pair of them with about two hundred arrows each, I was very sorry to hear on the radio this morning that Irene's dad had passed. She had a deep and special relationship with him, evident in the way she spoke about him and in the anecdotes she told. Kindest wishes for her, Aidan and all the Gaffney family.
Many happy memories of Austin Gaffney, when he sang with our New Ross Musical Society. Who could forget, amongst several performances, his Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, and Emile in South Pacific? He was a real gentleman and a wonderful singer. RIP
Very sorry to hear of the passing of your Dad Irene. Only learned of it on John Bowmans radio programme this morning. Hehad a wonderful career singing from the cradle to the grave and took his musical heritage from his parents . and indeed passed it on to your good self ,among others. The apple doesnt fall far from the tree! Always remember your comment .....he was a fiver not a tenner....
Commiserations to you, aidan and the family. May he rest in peace

Very sad to hear of Austin's passing, a lovely gentleman. May he rest in peace.
I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Austin, an Irish legend of song, a true gentleman and ambassador.
I cannot express how excited I was to find myself - mid teens- rehearsal pianist for a production of The Desert Song ( Pioneer Musical and Dramatic Society) with Austin as The Red Shaow ( of course!) and Brendan Cavanagh as Sid El Kar. I was lucky enough to work with Austin many times in the future, and retain happy memories of each occasion.
My sincere condolences to Susan, all his family, and especially Irene and Una, who were also part of my Irish musical history. May he rest in peace.

Austin was one of the first artists to welcome me to Ireland when I joined the RTE Concert Orchestra in 1980.
Later that year we toured together on a mammoth USA tour with the incredible figure of 63 concerts in 75 days!
I loved his professionalism, respect for audiences and care for his fellow performers.
Those days were Golden years in the history of Irish music and, as an Englishman, I felt proud to be not only part of that history but also to be a close colleague of Austin.

My thoughts are with the family. I was honored to work with Austin in so many theatre productions. He was so kind and encouraging and generous with his time and advice. He commanded the stage and the audience when he performed. There will never be another ROBIN HOOD like him .
