I was so sad to hear of Audie's passing.
He was a wonderful man and and had a huge impact on my childhood. Himself and Betty were like second parents to me and I'll never forget them. From the holidays in Ballygarrett to collecting crabs in Portrane, he gave us the joy of simpler times. Through us kids, our parents became friends and we still have the home videos with Audie on the guitar at house parties and everyone singing along, he was truly a talented man in many ways and was a great friend to both Mam and Dad also.
May you both find comfort that he is again reunited with Betty and may they give you the strength to get through the coming days and weeks.

St Finbarrs School Hall every Thursday night 1965/1966. The Sandmen were our resident group. Their lead guitarist was Audie Pownall. How many great nights the local teenagers had dancing to this fantastic band. Every new hit learned and prepared for the following week. Audie’s guitar solos. What fun we had. Audie was an absolute gentleman and an outstanding musician. We remember him with huge affection and wish him God speed to his rest.

Brian and June,

We are so deeply sorry for your loss.

Audie wasn’t just a lovely man, he was such a huge part of our lives and our childhood. He truly was like a second dad to us both, always there, always patient, always ready to show us something new or have a laugh.

Some of our happiest memories growing up are because of him — from crab fishing to making jam, playing golf, and so many everyday moments in between that now mean even more.

He meant so much to us, and we know how much he meant to you and the whole family. It brings comfort to think of him back with your mam now, together again.

We’re thinking of you all so much at this very sad time and sending you lots of love and strength.

Offering our condolences on the sad passing of Audie.

To June and Brian, their partners and children and his friends and neighbours in Artane. He will always be remembered as a man of the outdoors, his vegetable garden, soccer, Bolands biscuits “with butter”, ragworm catching for fishing down at Donabate, and a man with a big heart.

As a kid he was always an energetic- guitar playing, Irish music playing and dancing and the auld home brew.

It’s a sad day but a happy day as he will be united with Betty who will box the ears off him.
