Sincere sympathy to the McGann family on the very sad passing of Barry. As a young boy coming up to Con, too old to play in school, he welcomed me to senior and club rugby in his easy inclusive way. Dear Val, I was shocked & saddened to hear today that your beloved Barry had passed away.
My deepest sympathy to you and all your family, extended family & extended McGann & ONeill Family.
I have thought of you all over the years with great fondness & the happy times we had when he was my first Manager in BIF,
Tralee. I owe him a lot for all the opportunities & contacts which I got from him having the trust to give my first job.
He was a true gentleman with a great sense of humour, and of course a fantastic sportsman.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
May Barry rest in peace.

Sincere sympathy to all the McGann family on the sad passing of Barry. A true gentleman. I was part of the 66 year in PBC. Barry, Rest in Peace. Sincere sympathy, Albert Curran, Lucan and Western Road Cork
What a shock - and what a loss.Barry transcended the world of sports. It was a glittering career and he wore his accolades so lightly. A wonderful raconteur, he enlivened any company ,with his self-effacing wit and generosity of spirit. It is often overlooked that it was only the cancellation of our two home games in 1972 that cost him the Grand slam (having beaten England and France AWAY!). Not that you'd ever hear Barry complain or dwell on it. He was a thorough gentleman at all times ,and I can only offer my sincere condolences to Barry's immediate and extended family. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
Deepest condolences to Barry’s wife Valerie and the extended McGann family including Barry’s nine grandchildren whom he adored. Deepest sympathy also to Barry’s siblings Sean and Maura and their families. The late Fr. Diarmuid was the McGann brother that I knew best having played with him on the Lees football team in the late fifties and early sixties but not as a county minor when he and Sean along with two other Lees players formed the backbone of the 1958 to 1960 Cork Minor Football teams. The McGann boys were all gifted athletes.

Barry certainly left his “mark” on the rugby fields and his immediate and extended family will forever have so very much by which to remember him fondly and be joyfully proud of his unique sporting talents and accomplishments. It was an added bonus to see how Barry in playing rugby used his superior soccer skills; by way of those clever, unexpected and select “grub kicks” along the ground to skillfully pierce an otherwise impenetrable defense.
May his fond memory be a blessing to all who knew him or saw him play any sport.

Solas na bhFlaitheas go bhfeice sé
Glórtha na n-aingeal go gcloise sé
Is ar dheis lámh Dé
Go raibh a anam dílis coidche

There are so many stories about him that people are sharing since his death, from Pres. and Cork Con to Ireland.
He was always, of course ,a proud Cork man.!
It was a privilege to know him and I know , Garrett always spoke very highly of Barry and they were great friends.
It was lovely to see him get on the Hall of Fame in Munster Rugby’s Thomand Park ,in 2017, and so well deserved.🏆
So fitting ,as one of his finest moments was when Munster beat the All Blacks in ‘78 .
A true gentleman , and a wonderful and talented sportsman.

Barry had left Pres by the time I got there in 1968 but he’d come back in 71-73 and coach the senior rugby team with DesiBa before any big match.
He was a gifted footballer who’d walk through our whole team without us being able to touch him. He made it look so easy, a football genius.

May he rest in peace 🙏

In today’s world he would be the Messi of rugby
Another cork superstar
May he rest in peace and thanks for the memories 🙏
Deepest sympathy to you dean and maire , and valerie and family. I consider barry to be one corks gratest sporting sons. Starry crowley used to call a stretch of the western road , a golden mile. As the cantwells, the kiernans, and the mcganns honed their spierting skills. With skip cantwell excelling at soccer and barry and to. Kiernan representing cork con, munster and ireland at rugby. Barry was one of my spirting heros ss a teenager watcing him play for ireland on the tv. But more than that he was a great family man. So may his gentle soul rest in peace.

Sincere condolences to the family of Barry. May he rest in peace
Sincere sympathy to Valerie and the McGann family. Barry was magic off the pitch as well as on it. Our days in Westboro - First Southern were special.
Saddened to learn of the passing of Barry - sincere condolences to his beloved wife and immediate family, also to extended families. I (Steve) first met Barry as a young man in the company of his late Dad and followed his career with great interest as he made his mark on Munster and Ireland rugby teams. He was a player of immense talent and it was a great pity that injury prevented him from gaining many more caps for Ireland. Although I only met him on a few occasions as the years passed, I was aware that he was quite a good golfer. To all genuine rugby followers the memories of Barry McGann will always hold a special place in their sporting lives, may his gentle soul Rest In Eternal Peace.
Sincerest condolences to Jeann and all Mc Gann family on Barry's sad passing. A fabulous rugby player. May he rest in peace. RIP.
