Barry is a man I wanted to get to know. In and out of Oaklands Park since I grew up here, I'd catch him with his calm demeanour briefly on the street. When life slows down, I recognise what a wonderful neighbourhood this is. I am shocked and saddened of this lovely man's passing, and that I missed my chance to know him more. That photo of Barry nonetheless brings a smile to my face. My heart goes out to Sheelagh and the family.

I'm so sorry to hear of Barry's passing. I worked with him a long time ago in AIB. He was always so patient and helpful, a true gentleman. He always spoke so highly of his family, condolences at this difficult time. May he rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to all the Tiernan family on the sad passing of Barry. I only found out today from a colleague in AIB and I was saddened to hear of this. When I first joined AIB as a graduate I worked with Barry for a short time. I always remember him as such an excellent people manager and so approachable. I had the pleasure of working with him in AIB a few yrs ago and he epitomised everything it means to be a gentleman.

He spoke so lovingly of his wife and especially his 2 girls. I remember one Christmas he was very stressed out about the delivery of an American girl, using every connection he could think of to make sure someone was happy on Christmas morning. That was just the kind of guy he was.

He always had a smile and never sweated the small stuff. Ye can be so proud of him and the impact he had with all he came in contact with. I hope you can take some comfort in that over the coming weeks and months as you navigate life without him, although I’ve no thought he will journey it beside you all.
