I was very sorry to hear of Barry passing. He was a true gentleman whenever I met him—always warm, kind, and gracious. I remember our last meeting clearly; he was so delighted to be back in Cork Golf Club, and it was lovely to see the joy it brought him. He’ll be missed by many. Barry was my manager when I used to work in O Sullivan’s Bar in Douglas many years ago. He was an absolute gentleman and such a kind, friendly man. He made work “fun” as he always was in good humour and I would look forward to bumping into him for a chat wherever our paths crossed in recent years. He was one of the good ones.

When you’ve known someone for so long it’s difficult to find the words to describe how you feel and the void he’ll leave behind. I read of the appreciation of people who worked, met and played with him with great admiration. What a positive influence he has been.

Barry was always such a gentleman dealing with me & my family in Little Island & later Fota. It was so wonderful to have him back in Cork Golf Club, and to see him making such a wonderful contribution to the club again. It was only at the beginning of April we were reminiscing on the days when I was a junior member at the club, nearly 50 years ago, and on some of the club's personalities as Barry used to help out occasionally behind the bar. I have known Barry for a long time and we were all delighted to see him back in Cork Golf Club where with his warm personality and competence he immediately became a key figure in the operation of the club.

I had the pleasure of working with him in Johnno’s for over 2 years and countless occasions since I finished working with him after college. Always enjoyed his humour and our conversations about all things hurling and football. Was a hard worker and a good man.
