Sending heartfelt condolences to Bertie's family. It's with deep regret and profound sadness that I learned of his death. My thoughts are with you at this challenging time. One of life's true gentlemen. He often gave me a lift to Newcastle West, back in the day. Getting out in Newcastle West one evening, my leg got caught in the safety belt and I fell out on top of my head. Anyway, no harm done.
I'm in no doubt Templeglantine West will inarguably be a lesser place in your absence.

My Friend Bertie Flynn.

I remember well when calling to my good friend, Bertie Flynn,
When on the road to Kerry, I was always welcomed in.
He cooked and cleaned and we often talked of things in Heaven and earth below,
A bowl of Leek soup on the table,
He made me have before I'd go.

I did admire how Bertie coped when his wife was taken away,
The girls are proud of their fine Dad , who reared them after that awful day,
A powerful man who loved Glenbeigh, and went there when he could,
He loved his county Limerick, and rejoiced when the hurlers came good.

So I'll miss my good friend Bertie,
And when passing by your gate,
I'll remember how I often called,
Whether early, but sometimes late.
To the girls I say, as ye remember Dad, who proudly spoke of ye,
He never failed to share his joy of when ye'd be visiting him again to see.
