Bartley Joyce

I was very sorry to hear the sad news of the death of Bartley. As Head Steward in the Cathedral for many years, Bartley was brilliant. His approach may have appeared low key, but behind the scenes he had a lovely way of managing the various personalities that he dealt with, and a sharp eye for anticipating any difficulties that might arise. His patient manner and good humour was a sign of the true gentleman that he was. His contribution as Chief Brancardier in Lourdes was no less invaluable, I am sure, to the many people who crossed his path.
He gave me a great help in preparing for an Irish interview many years ago. Thank you Bartley for all your kindnesses, and for the memory of your good company in 'the tearoom' over many novenas.
Thank you very much to the family for allowing us the privilege of forming a guard of honour of cathedral stewards to accompany Bartley as he was carried out of the cathedral for the last time.

Sincerest sympathies to Mary and Michéal, Ciaran, Gearoid, Máire and Bartley Óg and all the Joyce family on the sad passing of Bartley from all in Rahoon Newcastle GAA Club. Bartley was hugely influential in the setting up of Hurling in the Newcastle area , and in the early 1980s was instrumental in the the two clubs joining up to form the Rahoon-Newcastle club as it is know today. We thank him and his family for their massive contributions down through the years.
