Carol, so sorry to hear of the passing of Ben. I left a separate tribute to Ben as an Irish politician. Here I want to tell you Carol how sorry I am for your loss.
Ben was a good man, an honest politician with the common touch that made him instantly likeable. From the War of independence onwards the Briscoe family did the Irish state some service with a fidelity that sadly was not reciprocated by one scoundrelly senior civil servant. May I say how ashamed of my country I was when Ben shared the details with me. Like Leopold Bloom, Ben was a true Dublin Jew. May his memory be a blessing
Deepest Sympathy From Bernard Durkan TD
