It is sad to see Bernard’s passing. He was a fine honourable public servant, driven by public spirit and the desire to make things better for everyone. He left an indelible mark as Minister for Sport, setting up the national anti-doping programme led by John Treacy and they shared the same passionate intent to keep Ireland as an international leader of clean drug-free sport. He was a true gentleman.
— Prof Brendan Buckley
So sorry to hear of Bernard's passing - he was always a gentleman, helpful and honest - I used to enjoy our chats about politics when I would ring him for his take on what was likely to happen in North Central at election time.

We would always have fascinating detours when he would tell me about scores out Clogheen or explain where the Croppy Boy or the Jewman's Stand were or fill me in other aspects of life on Blarney St back in the day.

My sympathies to you all on your sad loss
