His lovely personality would light up an entire room. He was a fine Irish gentleman who had a heart of gold. He was a scholar, an athlete and then became a highly respected and accomplished member of An Garda Siochana. May my Uncle Bernie Rest In Peace and soar with God’s heavenly angels. He is at peace now and reunited with his parents, brothers John, Edward, Kevin and his sisters Teresa and Mae in heaven. I love you Uncle Bernie. xx

Fondest memories of Thomas Bernard O’Reilly 16037B (better known to one and all as Big Barney) when stationed in Burnfoot so many long years ago, a genuine gentleman of the highest order and a genial Mayoman perpetually pleasant and good homoured who transferred to Buncrana on Tuesday 20th July 1976 after almost 10 years in Burnfoot. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.

We joined An Garda Siochana in December, 1964 and, from the outset, Barney had an infectious smile and continuous sense of good humour that created a knock-on effect to everyone in his company - he retained this endearing quality throughout his life.
