Sad news , my deepest sympathies to all the Russell family. I had the honour and privilege, with others, of helping Benny to run Juvenile teams in Erin's Isle. I learned a lot ,from this good and decent man. Wherever we went ,around Dublin or beyond, it was never chaos. Benny had things organised, kept in contact with the young players parents and families. We'd some good wins ,did Finglas proud and took our defeats as well. I've some great memories of those years. Rest In Peace Benny ,sleep well. Someday I'll get to hear ya , give The Candy Store On The Corner, another go.

Benny Russell was like a father figure to so many of us growing up in Isles in the 80’s and 90’s.

He was the “glue” that kept a group of vulnerable teenagers together and loved each and every one of us equally.

No matter how good or limited you were you were a star in Benny’s eyes. You got the regular calls about training and games (no WhatsApp back then)

The impact Benny Russell had on my life is immeasurable. A constant support, never judged or criticised, always supportive and encouraging.

I cannot express or could ever repay what Benny did for me and so many like me. Memories are plentiful and will last forever, it’s just a pity people like Benny don’t last forever.

Will never forget you Ben, thank you and rest easy.
