So very sorry to hear of Bernard's passing. I worked with Bernard in the Department of Health and so did my father Finbarr (RIP). He was always a gentleman and always had time and a smile for everyone. My deepest and sincerest condolences to his family.

I was so very sorry to hear the sad news of Bernard's death. Comhbhrón ó chroí to Eva, Ronan, Andrew and Eva on the untimely loss of such a lovely gentleman.

So sorry hear of Bernard's death. I worked with him for over 30 years and he was a force of nature who lit up the corridors of Hawkins House. He was an exceptional public servant who instilled an ethos of dedication to excellence in all who worked with him. He has left an extraordinary legacy which will continue to enhance the health services for many years to come. He was also one of natures gentlemen, who focused on finding solutions rather than dwelling on problems and did so with great humour and someone whose friendship I truly valued.

I was devastated to hear of Bernards passing. He was a unique gentleman, the likes of whom will never be again. My heart goes out to all of you especially his grandchildren - he was a Gramps through and through. He was loved by everyone in the Department and one of the most impressive things about him was that he knew everyone in the Department by name. Regardless of the pressure he was under, he always had a smile on his face and had time for everyone. He was exceptionally good to me during a difficult time and I will never forget him for that. I had the pleasure and privilege of working with Bernard for almost 35 years, from his arrival in the Department of Health around 1980 right up to our joint retirement in May 2014. I don't recall us sharing a cross word in all that time.
Bernard had a warm and generous spirit and always had a kind word for everyone he came across. He had a great sense of humour and his laughter and banter brightened up the corridors of Hawkins House.
Bernard was an exemplary public servant who has made a lasting contribution to our Health and Social Services, especially in relation to the development of Nursing, Child Care and Adoption.
Above all, Bernard was a great friend who will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace Ber.
