Deepest condolences to Nicola and all the Doyle family on the passing of Bernard. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílís agus suaimhneas sioraí dó.
Oh Captain, My Captain.

I have always spoken about the effect Bernie Doyle had on me in St. Clement's. What a legend. His economics classes were life lessons. His humour was just brilliant and often had us in tears. He was so kind, firm, guiding and above all an absolute Gentleman. A teacher that you recall frequently as you go through life. My condolences to all his family and colleagues on this sad occasion.

Sincere condolences to Bernard's family on his untimely passing. Short story from St. Clements days - academic year 87-88 myself + five fellow geniuses passing lunch break in Class 3G at top of house since demolished. In our wisdom + to pass time  took to chucking various items including chunks of half-eaten sandwiches out of classroom window + onto fellow students below. Unfortunately almost directly below was school shop with Bernard at post. Seeing debris rain down wasn't long before he appeared upstairs + rounded us up. Punishment? Instead of finishing for 1/2 day following Wed for PT Meeting, Bernard informed us that "The Six Diners" would serve tea + coffee to parents. And so we duly missed out on 1/2 day. Best part though came after meeting was done + dusted + we finally ready for home. Tough guy Bernard emerged from school shop with load of choc bars / duly distributed to his Six Diners. Think the story captures a lot of Bernard + who he was - tough guy keeping order yet giving out choc bars to show no hard feelings + that he appreciated us having helped out. In short one of the good guys - even today in my own work I try to display same toughness yet treating people with respect + decency. God speed Bernard. Final note - I know Bernard documented photographic history of St. Clements for years + had passion for same. I have collated small no. such old photos but always on lookout for more - if anyone willing to share would be v grateful olearyp@hotmail.com 086 8837114

Our deepest sympathy to Una, Paula, Aoife, Leo, Erik and the rest of the Doyle family.
We got to know Bernard at the wedding of Paula and Erik in Dublin in 2014. We immediately understood what unique people he and his wife Una were. They immediately embraced us with a cordiality and warmth rarely seen. We were pleasantly surprised to be invited to the wedding, since we were not in the immediate family or circle of friends, but just the parents of Line Aune, married to Anders, Erik's brother.
We are thinking of you in this difficult time.
