We were so sorry to hear of Bernie's passing (rest in peace dear Bernie). She was a wonderful and kind woman and mother and one of the nicest people we have ever met. We spent many an evening together at the painting classes in Corrib Park in the past and she was a wonderful artist and so creative. Our condolences to the extended Smith and O'Brien family.

Nicola & Adam, we are gutted by your mother’s passing. Please express our sympathy to the rest of your family. My friendship with Bernie began almost as soon as we moved to Galway and learned that there would be another set of boy/girl twins in Ian & Michaela’s class. Your mum reached out to me promptly and we ended up trading stories and tips!! She was funny! Very funny! And you four spending so much time together gave us much to chat about!! There was the time Adam & Ian went on a double date to Mall Cop; the time I let you all walk to Salt ‘n Pepper alone; all the nights you pulled down mattresses and slept in our Den; Michaela & Nicola in Guides, Gizmo and Hunter and much more. You ended up with things moved from our house like a rug! Then we stayed in touch between Galway and NY! I was glad to be with Bernie all the times I went back to Galway up until Covid. I still use the turmeric tea recipe she wrote out for me to help w cancer side effects. We shared that too. I know she is well and happy with God and is guiding you still. Always. Your mother is great and you are a great credit to her. I watched the Mass on livestream and cried a lot. Your joint eulogy was blessed xxx We loved her, too. 💔 Cheryl, Ian, Michaela, Andrew

I had the privilege of knowing Bernie for almost thirty years. My brother Darren and I spent many's a day and night at Bernies house with her dear son Gary. Bernie always made me feel incredibly welcome. She was such a caring and nurturing person. She always had great banter with Gary which I thought was lovely. She was a fun loving, creative person and a brilliant mother. Jason, Gary, Paul, Adam, Nicola, Michelle, Timy and all extended family I'm very sorry for loss. RIP Bernie
