I was so sorry to hear the very sad news of Bert's passing. I was lucky enough to have know Bert when he was in Midleton, a gentleman and one of life's good guy's. He was a gentlemen to work for and showed us the ropes . He trusted us and vice versa. We all worked hard but appreciation was shown with several staff nights out thanks to Berts generosity. Bert was so kind and instilled great confidence in me and all the staff. Great memories of when the tour de france passed through midleton and Bert treated us all to a big fryup next door. I'll always remember the lovely reference he hand wrote for me when i moved on to a job i subsequently worked for 22 years. Rest easy now Bert and thank you ❤️

As a child I saw Bert first and foremost as the man who gave me a puppy. After years and years of begging my parents for a dog Bert, a taxi man by trade rescued my dogs mother. A prolific rescuer it seems my childish imagination turned Bert into a hero of sorts, as children do. But, as a nervous child I clung to things like this and Bert consistently did small things to prove that he was a good, kind man and a sweet father figure. Whenever I came to his home (mainly to get my hair cut by the very talented Aine :D) he was a gentle and polite presence a man who had clearly raised children and knew how to interact with them without making them feel obligated or pressured. It's a rare skill. I know that he was a man who helped to raise two incredible woman who made their children feel valued and who adored his talented wife. He was someone who who rescued stray dogs and I'm sure he saved countless desperate young people on nights out get home safe and sound. The world is a little less without him, but, what he left behind is golden. Love to all the family in this difficult time.

Felt so sad when I heard the news about Bert’s passing yesterday from my friends who used to work in an siopa. I worked in an siopa for ten years some great memories and great friendships, even when I left for another job I would open up every Sunday morning to do the Sunday papers . Bert was one of the kindest most generous gentlest positive and happy person that you could meet and a great guy to work for. Bert always loved music and many a night we would go to a gig that Bert would know where some good singer or band was playing. Ainne Rachel Rebecca your families and the Glorney family in my thoughts at this very sad time sincere condolences. Rest in peace Bert 🦋
