Hilary - our deepest sympathy. I find it hard to believe I played golf with Bill only a few short weeks ago.
We are at the vineyard which is why we couldn't attend the obsequies.
It gave me great pleasure to have Bill as a "customer" and to know that you both enjoyed my wine.
I hope to see you soon so that I can offer my condolences in person.

I did not know Bill personally or have I ever had the pleasure of knowing him, but he was a fixture of Irish Telly growing up. He always came across as a beautiful soul. A rare diamond of a gentlemen, you should all be very proud to have called him your Husband or Dad. RIP Bill.

My sympathy to Hilary & family on the passing of a truly wonderful Cork Man & utter professional. I played hockey many years ago with Hilary & remember the excitement on hearing she was dating Bill. May God comfort you all & help you remember what a privilege is was to have known such a lovely gent.

I meet bill when i was care assistants in Sonas in Athlone when he visited his sister Margaret r.i.p .Lovely man and made no distinction on who he was.treated us all with respect and always a friendly word. It was a sudden parting but they are altogether now. May his gently soul rest in peace

A man who brought a smile to faces across our nation, but more importantly to his family who he held so dear. His presence will be sorely missed. Deepest sympathies to the O'herlihys and those closest to Bill. His memory will most certainly live long among us.

I never met Bill but completely felt I knew him. World Cup Football coverage will never be the same.

Bill O'Herlihy exercised his franchise at the Polling Station where I was a Supervising Presiding Officer with my colleague Finbar Murphy.

Casting decorum aside we slagged Bill over his " Okey Doke " moments. He vigorously and humorously denied such moments.

But on the way out we invariably got an "Okey Doke" out of him; with an impish grin.

Finbar is a sports fanatic and always had a good chat with Bill about current sporting events.

When he said "Okey Doke" on his final broadcast we knew it for me and Finbar; no one else.

A gentleman. RIP.
