Very sorry to hear about Bill's passing, we had some great chats on the Meetup outings in Kilkenny.
He'll be missed.

Grace, I was very sorry to hear of Bill’s death. My condolences to you, Claudia and Hannah. You are in my thoughts.

I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear Bill had passed. I knew Bill from UCC. He used to sit next to me in French lab classes and he was so friendly, intelligent and had a dry sense of humour. I regret so much now not keeping in contact with him and i am only learning about how wonderful he was through his death which is so sad. I think of him often which shows the impact he had on my life and others too. May he rest now in peace. Heartfelt sympathy to his family and all who knew him.

Bill has been my oldest and dearest friend, it was about 50 years ago that we first met in primary school. We tried out for the local football (soccer) and GAA clubs but failed miserably. We played chess, cards, board games and snooker regularly.
Along with our close friend Stephen and our other friends we would weekly and sometimes daily play soccer in my parents garden pretending we were Bryan Robson, Maradona, Paul McGrath and even the great Pele.
Later in life as we both went to college and then off out into the world on our travels and work journeys, we both kept in contact and would meet up as often as we could.
We would chat about the sights and sounds we witnessed and the good friends we made along the way.
We chatted about the good times and the bad times.
Some of the best chats we had were about our kids and how amazing it was to be a Dad.
I hope that in time Claudia and Hannah get to read some of the condolence messages as they will see how admired and loved Bill was to so many people.
Thank you for all the fun, laughter and memories Bill.
I will miss you and as we always said, I will see you when I see you.

Bill was one of the first people I met when I started commerce at UCC in 1987. We quickly became very close friends, and I spent many the day with him throughout the next four years. When I first met Bill, I was struck by his intelligence, his encyclopedic knowledge and his sense of humour and keen wit. We had a mutual love of politics and current affairs, and I have fond memories our many chats, political debates, and playing hours of cards in the common room (when we should have been studying) over those four years.

After I graduated UCC, I ended up going to America, but Bill and I made sure that we stayed in touch over the years. We spoke on the phone regularly and almost always met up whenever I came home. And when I was going through a tough time in 2010, Bill did not hesitate to get on a plane to come visit me.

Bill was definitely dealt a tough hand in life when it came to his health. However, his attitude toward his sickness and other struggles in recent years never ceased to amaze me. I will never forget his good nature, upbeat manner, and courage in the face of suffering. Family was also very important to Bill. And the manner in which he prized every moment of his time with Claudia and Hannah spoke volumes about who he was. He was an amazing father and those girls were truly the center of his universe. I am so glad he had the time with him that he did.

Bill was a very loyal and dedicated friend to me. I will miss him dearly.

I have known Bill all my life, having grown up with him in Carrigaline. He was the smartest guy I knew and I always knew he would succeed at whatever he put his hand to.

He had the conviction to go to UCC to study Commerce at a time when a lot of our peers did not. Having seen his Mum and Dad running a very successful Pub, the Stable Bar, Bill had a deep appreciation of hard work and he knew he would some day have a business of his own.

Always forward looking, he was programming on the ZX Spectrum computer in the 1980's when a lot of people didn't even have computers at work! He went on to become very proficient at programming and this stood to him always. Bill was very successful both in the public sector and then in his own business endeavours. He started a wellness and personal coaching business, seeing the potential before these became the huge cultural phenomenon they are today. I'm sure that if he didn't get sick then he would have been a self-made millionaire!

Bill battled with serious illness in the latter half of his life and it's a testament to him that he didn't let it bring him down. He lived for his family, most especially his children Hannah and Claudia and spoke of how proud he was of them and looked forward to seeing how they would grow and develop as adults. I met Bill in August and as always really enjoyed our chat and was looking forward to catching up again over the holidays. Fate has cruelly taken you far too soon Bill, rest peacefully my friend.

We were deeply sorry to hear of the sudden passing of Bill. Our thoughts are with his beautiful daughters Claudia and Hannah and their mum Grace. May he rest in peace.
