Joan & Family, I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Bill. I, along with my family have wonderful memories of a very kind and caring man. We learned so much from Bill as we were growing up in Cabra. I’m delighted that so many people attended the Funeral Mass. Unfortunately, I had an appointment that I could not change and so I was unable to join you all. I know Ellen and Linda explained my absence but I just wanted to let you all know how deeply grateful we all are for the life of Bill and so sorry for the loss he has left behind. I have offered Mass for him and I pray for each of you as you navigate the difficult road through grief. My deepest sympathy to you all.

I am massively saddened to hear of the passing of Bill. Bill was the definition of a pure Gentleman who whenever as a Kid that I'd be in his Annamoe shop, be it for for a message for my parents or Premier League stickers he'd throw ya some extra sweets or this or that & always had warm words or some banter to give. Bill will be hugely missed by so many around the Cabra area going forward & may he RIP 🙏

I was lucky enough to grow up playing on Cabra Drive many years ago when it was full of children playing games all day long (chasing, hide and seek and of course football). Part of the daily ritual was to head through the lane (which has long since been covered up) at the bottom of the road over to Whelan’s shop where Bill was ever present. He had a great way about him that all the children from the area really appreciated. I’ll always remember the jars and jars of sweets in Whelen’s. A quarter of cough drops or lemon drops was what kept us going back in those days. A true gentleman, Bill will be sorely missed in the community of Cabra Drive.
