His name was held in high regard within the Eames family of Larkhill Road…as Billy was a valued GAA colleague of my father Roger from their time as founders of Muire Naofa (now St. Mary’s) GAA. Club in Maugheraboy (Sligo town).

Only found out today that my late Father’s (Tom Clancy) friend and colleague Billy had died. So sorry to have missed his funeral. Billy was a true gentleman and friend. Sincere sympathies to Eugene, Deirdre, Mary and extended family. He’s now reunited with his beloved Noreen and family. RIP Billy. The Clancy Family, Pearse Road.

As a young lad growing up in North Sligo I ofter met Billy when travelling on the CIE bus in and out of Sligo Town and sometimes further afield.

Billy greeted everyone with a friendly smile and when time permitted he was happy to engage in friendly and interesting conversation.

My late Mother, Bridget, held Billy in very high esteem and frequently spoke of his many noble characteristics. Her bus trip to Sligo was always that bit more enjoyable if Billy was working on the bus.

On my last bus trip, before I became the proud owner of a Volkswagen Beetle, Billy was working on the bus and I have a very clear recollection of him extending good wishes to me with the greatest of sincerity.

Billy will be greatly missed by his family, nighbours and his very many friends.

I am very confident that he will be given a very high place in Heaven as a just reward for the good life that he lived on earth.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.

A wonderful neighbour who welcomed us to the Martin Savage community with open arms and could engage on any topic of conversation. I enjoyed calling to the house and tales of Billys youth. Billy talked with such pride of his family, especially his grandchildren. May heaven now be his bed and his soul rest easy.

Billy was a founder member of Muire Naoife (now St Marys). He made a major contribution to the development of gaelic football at underage level in Sligo. With his Colleagues of the day, he selflessly devoted his time and energy in fostering the game among U12s,14,16 and 18's involving a wide selection of the youth of Sligo.
He was understated in his efforts and never sought any glory...he was an absolute gentleman.
