I was very saddened to read of Bishop Brendan's passing. My deepest and sincerest condolences to his extended family and the SS.CC community
Brendan was a great friend to the Silke family both in Ireland and the USA, especially to my late husband Alex Silke ( passed away 2005) who for a number of years studied in the SS.CC community college in New Hampshire. It was there that they had become firm friends. He was a frequent visitor to our home in Dublin. He was very kind , gentle and empathetic and would fill a room with laughter with his amazing sense of humour.
We were very proud to be present at his ordination as bishop in 1980.
Very few people journey through life without hitting bumps on the way. He did but rose above them.
It was a privilege to have known him.
May his gentle soul Rest in Peace.

A great man for Retreats (In 'Peace in Christ'/Kilkenny) and I was lucky to journey with him on all the Ferns Diocesan Pilgrimages led by him in Lourdes. He made time for all the sick in such a Special way!/a little chat/a prayer or a joke and a huge hearty laugh!
You made a Difference to ALL Bishop Brendan.

Our deepest sympathy to Maura and family and to the extended Comiskey family on the death of Bishop Brendan. As one of the McSorley family I know how important Bishop Brendan was in the lives of Maura, Kathleen, Patrick, Malachy, Una and Jacqueline. He was very much a part of all family occasions and he really enjoyed them all. He was greatly loved by them and will be greatly missed by them. As a parishioner in the Diocese of Ferns, I also know how much he was loved by the people of Wexford. At Confirmations and other events he gave generously of his time, posing for photos and chatting with the children and their families - he was never in a hurry and enjoyed a chat and a laugh. He also went annually on the Lourdes pilgrimage and a very good friend of mine was with him on a trip to Jerusalem. They had such a lovely time in his company. There was a great sense of sadness in Wexford when he left the diocese. The people knew the Bishop and they loved him. He was truly a Bishop of the people.

We were so sorry to hear of Bishop Brendan’s death. He was a breath of fresh air in the Catholic Church in Ireland. He was witty, intelligent, humorous and above all a deeply spiritual man and the very many people who knew him will mourn his passing with deep sadness. Rest in Peace Bishop Brendan.

I had the blessed privilege of attending some of Bishop Brendan's retreat days in the Ardfert Retreat Centre, Co. Kerry and always came home in the better of those encounters. We share a deep love of the Sacred Heart, sown and fostered by our parents in our family homes, the first church. May Bishop Brendan now be loved forever by The Loving Heart of Jesus and his Heavenly Mother Mary on this beautiful May day and led there by his earthly mother Claire who began the wonderful journey for Brendan. Rest in beautiful peace.
