My most beloved Bishop Emeritus Hugh Slattery. May your soul rest in peace. We shall miss you dearly in the see of Tzaneen and continue to thank God for the gift of you. Under your tutelage you built St Brendan’s Catholic Secondary School which is one of the best schools in the province as well as initiated the cause of blessed Benedict Daswa.

Condolences to Bp Hugh's family of whom he often fondly spoke. I got to know him in 2010 at the Theology of the Body Congress in Philadelphia - the only 2 South Africans and we immediately struck up a great friendship. He was a great mentor to me, especially in his unwavering support and assistance with our pro-life ministry - Rachel's Vineyard. His Christ-like unconditional support he gave to the women struggling with their choice of having had an abortion was beautiful to witness. He was always a great inspiration in his quiet, humble way. I will miss our monthly chats! May he rest in peace
