Condolences to all my family, I am really sorry for Bob’s loss, he was a wonderful person, that was a great pleasure to know him, he will always be remembered…
Bob Rees was a gentle giant of a man who made an enormous contribution to the humanist movement in Ireland. He was witty, argumentative (in all the right ways) and a fine writer. He will always be fondly remembered by his humanist colleagues in Ireland and further afield. And his two books - Clerical Errors and Secular Humanism - will forever take pride of place on our bookshelf. Once met, to have known him was enough. My sincerest condolences to all of Bob's close family and friends.
Irish humanists have lost a wonderful person. We hope his family will be helped a little in their huge loss by knowing that his lovable, witty and brilliant mind has a legacy that reaches far and wide through his pioneering work for humanism in Ireland. He took risks in those early days but never held back, though always polite. His first book Clerical Errors is a delight. His introduction to his second book, on Secularism, shows him at his best, embracing everyone, even those most different from him - he saw good in all and wished above everything to see them free from oppression and free from want.
Very sorry for your loss.
I worked with Bob on a number of events for the Humanist Association of Ireland over the years. He was something of a legend in our circles and left a great legacy, both of writing and fun times.

Verry sorry to hear of Bob's passing. We knew him very well in our early years in Portmarnock. We enjoyed the Sunday morning kickabouts on the beach for some years, though even then we were at the veteran stage. Sympathy to all the family.

I have just witnessed a beautiful family send-off for Bob - I am only sorry I couldn't attend as I have been laid up for the past week and don't wish to pass along any germs. A fine mind and a great smile - you are missed, Bob.

As a member of the Humanist association, I recall many a heated debate with him, or indeed a hike up a hill while in heated debate with Bob.
Great mind will be sorely missed.

I am sadden to hear of Bob's passing. I was an engineering colleague of his in the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards (IIRS). I always thought of him as an interesting friendly colleague and friend, who was a very good practical mechanical engineer.
He told me that once he was the ship's engineer for UK's merchant Navy. He told me how he visited Sri Lanka (my homeland), many times on his sea voyages and related to me some interesting stories.
My wife and I shall always think fondly of Bob and his late wife Lana.
I would like to convey our deepest condolences to all of his close and extended family. May he rest in peace.

Fred, Dave, Stephen and Rachel. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Bob was one of the greats, the most incredible, gentle, kind, softly spoken, witty gentlemen I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. I will forever treasure memories of Bob lifting me, as a tiny tot, up towards the ceiling to see what it was like to be tall! While Lana was busy preparing lunches or dinners, Bob always took time out of his work to sit and play with us. I will forever cherish memories of your truly wonderful parents. Sending you all our love, Aoife, Ben and Luca. Xx
