Sincerest condolences to the family and our De La Salle Brothers. I worked with Br. Aidan as CIL Director and staff member and asked him many times to be official translator during conferences. We often sat together for meals at the De La Salle Motherhouse in Rome and also shared a kitchen-- he loved to cook -- and ingredients. We have just learned of the death of Brother Aidan, and we want to express our condolences to his family. We remember fondly the times we spent with Aidan, in Rome, where we had to run to keep up with him as he showed us the highlights of the Eternal City, and in Blackrock, where he enertained us with stories of his adventures travelling throughout Europe, including behind the Iron Curtain.

Sincere Condolences to Sr. Leonie and Donnie on the sad passing of Br. Aidan. I fondly remember Br. Aidan as a neighbour in Castletown/Bridge St. area of Dundalk. I recall Br. Aidan as a fellow student in the De la Salle Hall of Residence on Ely Place, Dublin. He was always very helpful and regaled us with stories of his travels by bicycle in Europe polishing his renowned language skills.

My deepest sympathies to Br Aidan's family and the wider La Sallian Community. Br Aidan was a both a brilliant educator and talented linguist. He was the essence of the La Sallian ethos.

I first met Aidan in 1998/99 in Castletown in preparation for a La Sallian family European Youth Gathering in Worth Abbey, UK where he also accompanied us. Aidan ensured that as many of us as possible knew the basics of languages in German, French, Italian and Spanish before our trip to Worth Abbey. Indeed, he would teach you more languages if one so desired. He accompanied me and a small LaSallian Irish delegation to the Jubilee World Youth Day in Rome the following year.

I kept in touch with Aidan throughout the years in both his time in Rome (where I wouldn't dare start a day trip in the eternal city without a linguistics lesson from him) and upon his return to Ireland in Dublin and subsequently Castletown where he spent his final years in the tender loving and excellent care of the staff in Miguel House.

Br. Aidan was kind, caring, a great listener and also had a great sense of humour. I have many fond memories of him. Aidan will be deeply missed by all those whose paths he crossed in this life.

His linguistic talent meant he could be comfortable among strangers on his travels. A gracious, soft spoken private man who has gone to his eternal reward,after a long & fulfilled life..
