He was such a kind gentleman who looked after his pupils so well & was so lovely to our friends and us during our time in Coláiste Íosagáin. We were delighted to meet him a few months ago at a concert in Coláiste Íosagáin. Leaba i measc na Naomh do.

Sincere condolences to you on the passing of the legend that was the Br de Barra. I was lucky enough to go on two trips with him, one to Egypt and one to Italy as part of the Latin crew. He was such an unbelievable educator and thoroughly kind human being. He had a huge, positive influence on my life and I feel so privileged to have been educated by him. On my own behalf and on behalf of my sisters, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the De Barra family on the passing of Br Donal .

I had the privelege of meeting Br Donal a few times through my own uncle, Br Mark McDonnell who was a confrer and great friend of his from the time they spent together in the North Monastery in Cork

Br Donal leaves a huge legacy behind of which you his extended family can feel very proud. He made an outstanding contribution to teaching, the Irish language and of course the GAA.

He was a unique man, who excelled at everything he put his mind to, including teaching, coaching, mentoring, and above all he was a true friend to many people, including myself, throughout his life.
He was very proud of his associations with his Alma Mater, the North Monastery, and actively promoted and attended many of the activities of the Past Pupils Union for many years.
In 2016 Br. de Barra was the recipient of the Past Pupil of The Year Award. The regular phone calls and letters will be missed.

Gearóid Dónal (or Dan as I knew him) was a man of remarkable generosity of spirit and integrity. He was a master of many small kindnesses, each of which meant the world.
