Rest in peace Brother Laurence.

From Sheila Kelly (nee Toner) and Family Armagh. Ireland
Sister of Brother Patrick Toner De Las Salle. Buried in Castletown.
In the 80s the sense of comradary between the boys vs the brothers kept us united, and the pranks were endless in between getting 6 of the best! These included Brother Lawrence or Tigger as we called him, whilst holding detention looking out of the school windows while the boys lowered a blazer on a clothes hook with a sign" Tigger" to throwing a tin foil ball at another's student head that missed and put a hole through Br Laurence periodic table to Br John in Our English class, listening to his tape on Julius Ceasar and at the critical moment after' Et tu Bruta ' a long winded fart had been added before the class.. He whom laughed was welcomed to another 6 of the best. Then Br Thomas as you were welcomed to " face Mecca". These are all fond memories that all of us in the 80s cherish. May he rest in peace after surviving us. A good life well lived dedicated to his students and the periodic table.. despite Potassium having being knocked off the chart. Bless all the Brothers of De LA Salle
I remember fondly Br Laurence’s gentle and kind demeanour. Our first day in Standard 6 science when he asked us to write a description of how a bicycle pump worked. All of us failed! He wanted to demonstrate how much we took for granted and how little we knew about how the world worked. We didn’t recognise at the time, but I do now, what a wonderful teacher he was. My condolences and prayers for his family. Mark Nicol, class of 87 De La Salle, Victory Park
Brother Laurence is well remembered by me, one of the many pupils who had the good fortune to have him as a science teacher back in the 1970's. His quiet, almost shy demeanour, belied his warm passion for good teaching and science. He was one of the brothers for whom I had the greatest respect. RIP Br. Laurence, you will not be forgotten.
On behalf of the DLS Past Pupils Association, sad to hear of the passing of Brother Laurence, a beloved teacher, mentor, and friend, who dedicated many years of his life to nurturing young minds at De La Salle College Victory Park.

Brother Laurence was not just a teacher of science but an inspirer of curiosity and a cultivator of dreams. His classroom was a place of wonder, where complex theories came alive and students were encouraged to see the extraordinary in the ordinary. He had a rare gift for making even the most challenging topics accessible, leaving his students not only informed but inspired.

Deeply admired and respected by colleagues, parents and students alike, Brother Laurence was the embodiment of patience, wisdom, and unwavering dedication. His gentle guidance shaped generations of learners, many of whom went on to achieve great things, always carrying with them the lessons he so passionately shared. He earned deep affection and gratitude for all who knew him

Outside the classroom, Brother Laurence was a remarkable long-distance runner and completed many Comrades Marathons over the years. Whether he was running through the early mornings, late afternoons or cheering on others from the sidelines, his passion for the sport left an indelible mark on the community.

Rest in peace, Brother Laurence. You have run the race with grace, and now you have reached the eternal finish line. You will be missed, but your impact will endure in the lives you touched.
Brother Laurence - a wonderful and humble Brother and gentleman who was a role model for all pupils who had the privilege of learning from him. Dearly loved by all at De La Salle College, Victory Park. He epitomised patience and self control, despite merciless teasing from Convent girls looking to do Matric Science in the 1970s/80s, and unceasing pranks from many of the college boys. Will we ever forget when he sliced off just a little too much Lithium to drop in water demonstrating how reactive it was. Hundreds of successes and A grade passes.
RIP Bro Lawrence

Caring for & spending time with such a reserved, witty quiet spoken man was a privelege., Br. Larry- A proud Galway man-spent years teaching & imparting the Lasallian mission of education & help for those less privileged in South Africa. His innocent ,reserved, witty & determined personality helped him in settling to the new life facing him in Miguel -lets hope he felt comforted & loved in his last years.
The big smile when Br.Martin would say- "Lets go for a drive Larry". or "help me with some small task", or when Duniery was mentioned- his "pet hate" was in mis- pronouncing his homeplace ,one had to get that right !
It is with true sorrow for your loss
I send sympathies to Br Martin, Br Ben, Miguel house community, De La Salle communities ,your family ,the past pupils in South Africa.
Your smile & kindness will enhance those around you in your final home. The marathons are run Br Larry & you've left your footprints deeply on this earth..
