He was one of the most influential people I had the pleasure of working with. His interest in his teaching staff and the students alike was of genuine sincerity and care. He also was gifted with a lovely, dry, old wit. Remembering a lovely gentleman whose educational practice was inspired by his deep Christian belief.

He was our school principal at an important time for the school where he employed superb teachers and built a tremendous atmosphere where teachers engaged fully with the students for the betterment of all. Bro Hegarty was instrumental in creating this wonderful centre of learning where students were encouraged to become the best they could be. A true educational leader.

Sincerest sympathies to Br Pat's relations on his passing. Hamlet was the LC drama he taught us expertly in 1972 and those final words spoken by Horatio are most apt in this instance --- "Good night, sweet prince and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Pat took a great interest in every student he taught and enabled them to reach their full potential. His versatility as an educator was noteworthy. Truly, he was a scholar and a gentleman.
I was saddened to learn of Br.Hegarty's passing.I knew him as a soft-spoken,gentle man.He gave me my probation year contract as a teacher in the The Castle in the 85-86 school year. The following year he( along with Br.Linnane) gave me a permanent job. Both of these events have given me and my family financial security to this day. Thanks SO MUCH Br.Hegarty for your belief in me.!

I hope that, in their loss, his family find comfort in knowing how deeply respected and admired he was. He left an enduring impression in St. Mary's, Carlow where he headed a happy school, always setting an example of patience, kindness, good humour, support for students in difficulty and encouraging his staff in their efforts. He was, as we say, one of the good ones. Paddy McGovern
