Having had six daughters attend Scoil Mhuire between the 70s and the 90s, Bean Uí Chaolaí was held in very high regard by all in our household, having provided such a steady, supportive and solid beginning to so many in our family. She will be fondly remembered by us all. May she rest in peace.

My condolences to Bean Uí Chaolaí’s family, the most lovely teacher who I fondly remember even now decades later, I was lucky enough to have her as my teacher in Junior Infants (or babies as it was known as) in Scóil Mhúire back in the late seventies- she showed kindness to us all and was definitely a teacher ahead of her time. To her family, my sympathies and also thanks- thanks for sharing your lovely mum with me & the thousands of young girls whom she taught. May she Rest in Peace

Dearest Barry and Micheál, words can’t express the grief you must feel at the passing of your beloved Mum. Auntie Breda was the loveliest and bubbliest of ladies. A big personality in a small frame. And such style! I had the honour of being the flower girl at Michael and Breda’s wedding. I still remember the red maxi dress I wore and how special it felt to hand the bouquet to the beautiful bride. Great memories of childhood visits to Clare, Cork and Dublin. We’re so sorry to hear of the passing of Breda (Bean Uí Chaolaí). Sincere sympathy to her sons and their families, and to the extended Quealy and Considine families, at this sad time.
30 years ago she was our daughter Cara’s infants teacher. Cara loved her- and used to play games of being Bean Uí Chaolaí at home, for which she needed a blackboard , chalk and the all important “high heeled shoes”. They had great fun, that year, in 1995, learning the “Clare Shout” when Clare won the All Ireland hurling final.
It was always great meeting her in or out of school. She was so warm, interesting, funny and always “galánta at fad”!
May her wonderful gentle soul Rest in Peace and May her memory be a blessing. 🙏

Having taught next door to Bean Uí Chaolaí for many years I feel I know you though we never met but she always spoke lovingly of you and your dad Michael. We shared everything in the Infant classrooms; knowledge and stuff and learned much. It is with a heavy heart that I learned of her death. Suaimhneas na bhFlaitheas dá hanam uasal.

I have strong memories of being in Bean Uí Chaolaí’s Junior Infants class in 86/87. She was that important first step on my life long journey in and with education all those years ago - and had a huge influence on my formative years - and that of generations of cailíní in Scoil Mhuire.

I probably didn’t appreciate how fantastic a teacher she was until I returned on Teaching Practice years later. I remember subbing in the Junior Infants class next door to hers for a few weeks at some stage while in college & she taught me more in those two weeks about Infant Ed than in all the years of college. She was innovative and ahead of her time in many ways - always seeking to hone her already finely tuned craft.

Bean Uí Chaolaí (I’m not sure that I ever called her anything else, even as an adult!) was glamorous, stylish and had a great sense of humour- a true lady. She loved hearing all the news and views! She always spoke so adoringly of her family- Michael & the boys - and when in recent years I met Brid with her grandchildren it was clear how much she loved this role too.

Bean Ui Chaolaí taught so many children in Junior infants in Scoil Mhuire through the years and played a pivotal role giving those children a fantastic start in education. I remember my very first day in school meeting her at the door back in 1979 and last met her again at my college graduation, it was like the perfect bookend to my education. May she rest in peace.
