Belated but very sincere sympathy on the death of Breege. An old friend from our UCG days, she was part of our Sligo fraternity. I actually succeeded her as President of the college PTAA. A blonde when they were far less ubiquitous than they are today, Breege was very popular, very well liked and rightly so. Ar sli na firinne go raibh a anam dilis.

To all the McDermott family, I am very sorry to hear of the sad passing of Bríd, as I know are many of my siblings, all of whom have lovely memories of her, and held her in the highest regard.

I had the great privilege of being taught by Bríd throughout my entire secondary school years, and I always found her to be friendly, kind, patient, interesting, and genuinely supportive. She had a lovely, engaging teaching style that gave me a real love of French from the very beginning, and something that has stayed with me ever since.

What also stood out was how warm and personable Bríd was outside the classroom. Whenever I met her in a social setting, she was just as kind and approachable, which speaks volumes about the kind of person she was.

She will be sadly missed.

To Brian, Niamh, Fiona, Joseph, and families, please accept my heartfelt condolences on Bríd’s untimely passing. I am thinking of you all at this very difficult time.

Aunty Breege was a big hero to me, I always found her so compelling. She used to read a lot of books when she came to visit us, she would buy them in the second hand book shop in Dundrum and she would leave many of them for me to read when she was finished with them. She would light up our house with her great stories and sparkling intellect. She loved to go to the Abbey Theatre with Mum and Dad. She was so devoid of affectation or artifice, always insightful and honest. She will be in my heart always.
