Dear Margaret, Don, Mairéad and Aoife, I was very sorry to hear of Brendan's sudden death. I have been thinking a lot about the years we shared in Cloonarkin. The memories are patchy, but colourful, and Brendan is there as a kind, quiet man. I am thinking of you all. May he rest in peace.

Very sad to hear of Uncle Brendan's passing. I was very sorry I could not make it back home to Ireland to show my respects, as I would have dearly loved to do. He lived a life as the epitome of being a true gent and an absolute scholar. His sincere and consistent calmness in delivering knowledge to your brain, an informed opinion on current affairs, or the punch-line of a great (but clean!) joke is how i'll remember him most fondly.
