On behalf of Derrick and myself our sincere sympathy on Brendan's death may he rest in Peace.
I’d like to add my condolences. I met Brendan quite by chance in 1996 while in Ireland with my sister Mary. We were in Loughrea to investigate the birth certificate of my great-grandfather, born in the area. Finding the county records building closed on the day we arrived, we were on our way back to town center when we were suddenly and luckily met by a Mr Reagan, a neighbor of Brendan and Kathleen. He promptly drove us to their house and showed us in entirely unannounced. I had a feeling this was par for the course with Mr. Reagan. After some confusion and preliminary explanation regarding who were these Americans, we presented our copy of the birth certificate and found we were indeed related — Brendan’s father (Hugh?) was my own grandfather’s (Thomas, of Yonkers NY) cousin.
We spent some time with Brendan and Kathleen, then they brought us to the old homestead in Lisfeasty, where Brendan’s older brother John and wife Biddie lived. My great uncle Vincent and wife Claire had visited in the late 60s, and Mary and I were the first ones back since.
At any rate, Brendan and Kathleen were so gracious, and we even got a picture of myself, Brendan and his grandson — the largest gathering of Brendan Killackeys the world may ever see.
I am sad to hear of his passing and wish you all peace and comfort from your distant relatives across the sea.
Yours Sincerely,
Brendan Killackey
