Brendan was a scholar & a gentleman. Thanks to a well traveled working life & intense personal empathy he had a great insight into the complex world we now live in. I knew Brendan for possibly twenty years, shared the suffering of his parents deaths, enjoyed his friendship and often discussed his escapades and struggles. Sadly, my last text from him was only a few days before his untimely demise, as he was arranging me to give a lecture on one of my books to his colleagues. That won't happen now.
Until we meet again...goodbye old friend!

I would like to send my sincerest sympathy to Brendan's family. As many have already attested, he was a beloved figure in the Bank - a wonderful colleague and friend and also a great and truly unique character. I will sorely miss our countless conversations about music, concerts, hurling and many other topics. It's hard to convey how much you will be missed by all of us. Rest in peace.

We played a good bit of tennis together back in the day, and he was good enough at tennis for me to know to never take to the squash court with him! He was a great man for the craic afterwards and for a chat anytime I saw him around Sandymount or Ballsbridge in more recent years. A very sad loss. RIP Brendan.

Brendan was a wonderful neighbour and an invaluable part of our community.

For many of the years he lived in his Dublin home, he tirelessly served as the director of the estate's management company. His dedication ensured that any issues, whether large or small, were resolved for the benefit of all residents.

He possessed a wealth of knowledge and a wide range of interests, combined with a friendly demeanour. He will be deeply missed.

My deepest sympathy to the McCheane family and friends. Many a team member in Commercial Finance dealt with Brendan throughout the years. He was always available to assist no matter the case. He gave the best of himself, a genuine character who will be sadly missed. Whenever we would meet, he would always discuss the tennis matches he played in Nenagh and tell some great stories. A true legend and the world is lonelier without him.
