I am so sorry to learn of Sam’s death and sincere condolences to Tony and all his family members.
I have great memories of our school days in Edenderry when we were school mates and also great friends.
Sam was a true gentleman who treated everyone with kindness and respect.
May he rest in peace.

So sad to hear that Sam is no longer with us. Sincere condolences to his family. I last seen him about 50 years ago. We were pals in Secondary School and I have great memories of my visits to his house, listening to Beatles records etc. He was a great guy and a great friend at that time.

So sad to hear of Brendan's passing. Like John Maguire, I too went to school with Brendan a long time ago. We gave him the nickname of Sam, and it stuck. Brendan was a very intelligent man and a nicer person you would not meet. Condolences to all Brendan's family. Rip in peace, Brendan.

I'm sad to hear of Sam's death. I went to school with Brendan and we were always great friends. I remember the time he was missing from school for a couple of days.
It turned out he had put a small piece of carbide into an Andrews Liver salts tin, spit into it to activate the carbide, tightened the lid on it and lit a match to a small hole in the bottom of the tin. This caused the carbide to explode and the lid to be blown off. Unfortunately for Sam he put the tin on the window sill and put the match to the hole. The lid hit him in the face. No health and safety those days.
I've thought of him fondly through the years. He was one of the good ones. Rest in peace Sam
